Apricity

Apricity

Feb 7th was the first sunny day in so long!

I went on a walk and thought about the word Apricity: “The warmth of the sun on a cold winter’s day.”

It’s crazy how apricity makes such a massive difference to temperature/outlook. I liked how it’s a really specific defining term, but also a concept which could be applied to other transformatory things/happenings/people appearing at otherwise bleak points in our lives.

I started planning a piece of stitchery to represent it- thinking about colours and shapes. I wanted colours which were crisp, cold, wintery but bright & optimistic, without falling back on the most obvious colour concepts of sunshine and blue skies. Then I came home, ate cake and drew out some templates.
